Found this with a Craftsman badged Walker Turner scroll saw. The guy's father owned them from the beginning. Long gone, and long neglected, they sat covered, but outside. The saw table was heavily pitted, so I pulled the motor to use with this lathe. I found only one other lathe like this in the photo index (submitted by Marc Darisse), but there is no specific date or mfr. Looking at Sears catalogs, I put it right at 1935.
Sorry, no before pics, but you know the story; rusty, stuck, ugly. I barely got these two photos as the guy who was buying it from me was taking it away when it occurred to me to get a couple!
The motor is an old Westinghouse 1/3 hp with a cast iron body. Cool little motor. One of the springs was missing in the cutout switch, so the motor had to be given a little spin to help it start. I hadn’t taken time to fix it, and the new owner thought it made the lathe more charming. Who was I to argue?
