This jointer is probably unique insofar it was given to me in mint condition, unused. The story behind it is that it was made in South Africa when Rockwell Manufacturing had a manufacturing plant in Port Elizabeth. The plant was in operation for a short period of 9 years. In 1973, when Rockwell Manufacturing amalgamated with North American Rockwell to form Rockwell International, all overseas plants with a turnover of less than $10 million were ordered to close down. Vic Thole, the person who started the South Afrcan operation then had to shut it down. As a memento of this short period of his working life he kept one 4 inch jointer, the one shown in the pictures. Some time ago I decided to try and record the short history of Rockwell in South Africa and in so doing I eventually met up with Vic Thole. Vic was so taken up with my interest in Rockwell Delta machinery that he decided that I should now be the keeper of this rather unique machine. It has never been used and is in a pristine state.
