Comments:
I received this machine in March of 2008. The owner wanted to make room and offered free for the taking. I also took away a 20" "Camelback" drill press and a Flather lathe. The planer was hooked up and ready to run. It has a square head cutter 18" wide. I replaced the lower crossshaft and rebabbitted the shaft bearings. I checked the clearances and polished and fitted the roller and cutter head bearings, they were in great shape.
Other than some minor adjustments the planer is ready to make chips again. I did do a test run and that's when I found it needed more adjustment.
Although I am not certain it is an American SMC planer that is my best guess.
To Quote the "Mothership" regarding American Sawmill Machinery Company:
"Over the years, quite a few brand names were used by American Saw Mill: Champion, Climax, Clipper, Hercules, Ideal, Jewel, Lightning, Monarch, Perfection, and Royal."
