This machine is kind of like the story of the mint condition Porsche found in a barn under a layer of dust. I had gone to an auction to look at some musical instruments. That didn't pan out, but in the back of the room were a few old machines including this one. The previous owner had mostly done metalworking and everything was covered in oil, but it was clear that this was a top of the line machine in original paint with 100% of its original parts. I snapped it up for a very reasonable price. The pictures here are "as found", just wiped down a little.
I did a full set of bearings, two 6205 for the pulley and two 6203 for the spindle and got it back to about .0015 runout without really trying. Teardown and reassembly was more complicated than other machines I've worked on and required several shop-built tools and jigs. I'll put a "how to" on the Wiki some time in future. I also put new bearings in the 1/2HP motor (another pair of 6203) and replaced the electrical cords that had become crispy after 48 years.
