Comments:
I have just purchased and received this bandsaw from another member. (8/1/08) I just spoke with Sarah at Yates American and confirmed the date of manufacture as 1941. It was built for the Navy and true to the general thought we all have, the casting is unfilled and no time was spent making it other than functional. However, this saw does have a brake on the backside of the motor.
The saw is mostly there. As can be seen, it is missing the covers at the quadrant for the lower guide. I believe they are the same as the Y36 and I am seeking a pair, with thumbscrews, if anyone has them. It also needs a cover (that is often missing) for the hole below the table tilt crank. The one that sometimes has a brake pedal exiting the hole. Along with the general restoration, I will make handles for the lower door latch and handwheel for the table. They are both missing but match the upper door latch and tension handwheel respectively; so the patterns are there. I have the upper part of the saw dismantled, wheels going out for tires, clean and paint, and bearings. I am excited! As previously, I will edit and fill out the listing as time goes on.
