I found this planer while attending a local auction. To my surprise no one seemed to want it very badly owing to a severe overlay of latex house paint. Underneath the heinous brush job was a little used school machine driven by a 7.5hp Baldor 3 phase motor. The auctioneer started out at one thousand dollars, but bidding only began when I raised my chin at 25.00.
Only two of us seemed to want it and the other guy not very much at all, so for less than anyone has a right to hope for the planer came home with me.
The initial plan was to re-sell it immediately, but I found it to be in such great condition I decided to keep it. This meant I had to put the motor inside the base casting as my shop is square foot challenged.
The under base modification is well worth doing if you have to be space concious and still desire one of these nice planers. Cost is about 16hrs of work. The paint is a wet look automotive type in metallic green. I don't get too caught up with matching original paints and like it just fine.
