Comments:
This jointer is constructed almost entirely of plate steel, with just a few cast iron parts. The bed structure was patented in 1953, and the application states the construction provides for a rigid long bed with less weight and cost than a cast bed. The design works fine, though the ways are a bit small.
This model has a 3-1/4" dia. four knife cutterhead and a direct drive Peerless 1-1/2 HP 3 phase dual voltage motor. The motor shaft and cutterhead are machined from one piece of steel - there is no coupling - the armature is keyed to the shaft. There are only two bearings in the whole assembly; one at the front of the cutterhead, and one at the front of the motor. The cutterhead has adjustment screws that make setting the four knives very quick and simple. It works fine and makes a clean smooth cut.
