When I took this shot I wasn't even sure of exactly what I was looking at, but it was explained as an extendable lathe. The upper bed on the tail end will slide in the tail stock direction. The funny thing is that when I found out that Fay & Scott was based in Dexter, ME, I immediately asked my 80 year old neighbor about the company as I knew she grew up in that area and still had many relatives there. She told me that her father worked for the company around the time of WWII, mostly at night after putting in a day on the farm. She said that he had his operation on the lathe timed to perfection, he could set his machine for it's 45 minute run and take a little nap while the machine ran and always woke up in time to set up the next run. Only in Maine! I don't have a lot of info on the particulars or capacities of this lathe as they were getting ready to leave for the day and I was lucky enough that they let me snap a few quick pics. With permision of the owner, Beverly Pattern Co..
