This machine was purchased from an IRS auction for $251 in December 2007. The machine was originaly purchased from a cabinet shop in North Carolina and shipped to the auction site, a 5-man cabinet shop, in North Jersey. Somewhere in transit the planer was knocked over and sustained some serious damage. The planer arrived wrapped in many layers of stretch-wrap and appeared to be in good shape. It was discovered later that the original owner had NOT done the wrapping, the freight company did this to conceal the damages. Because the new owner offloaded the planer with his own forklift and didn't discover the damages until AFTER the freight truck pulled away, he was unable to file any insurance claim.

The damages (most of them, anyway) were described/disclosed on the IRS site and that is what kept the bidding low, I'm sure. The parts that are good are exactly the parts that I need for my existing planer rebuild.
