I bought this as a package deal with an old Delta belt sanding station, and a newer smaller lathe. My neighbor was an avid garage sale freak, almost like a religion, and I paid $575 for the whole package. I saw the band saw go for $625 on eBay alone, plus S&H, so it is a super deal, even though I hate to think about how inexpensively he got it. I never plan on selling it. There is something about an old world machine restored that has a certain character, personality, that is hard to describe, but also hard to deny.
I did a complete cosmetic restoration, taking days of labor, and fine tuned it during reassembly, everything else was working perfectly, all original, and everything there, including the blade guard. I called Delta who bought Walker Turner and they said by the serial number this was one of the very last ones made in 1948. It cuts a super clean and accurate cut.
EDIT: This entry was updated on 11/4/2013 to correct the listed date of manufacture. If this was a Delta machine, the serial number would reflect a Delta manufacture date of 1948, however Delta (Rockwell) did not acquire Walker-Turner until 1957. W-T serial numbers were more of model numbers, and the presence of that tag along with the round W-T badge on the upper wheel guard with an orange background and with no model info spaces on it tells us that this saw could be as early as a 1940 model. (The solid orange badges were used beginning in 1940.) It is not yet known exactly when W-T switched to an orange badge with model info spaces on it, so the saw might also date to 1941 or even 1942. admin:dg
