This little shaper sat in Jim's shed for thirty years till he offered it to me. Many thanks to Steve Churman for advise in restoring it. The first picture shows a machine in better shape than it looks. I replaced both motor and spindle bearings. Randy of Trinity Electric St. Peter's MO finally helped me work out the problems with blowing capacitors. No one better, Garentee. Amazing how fast a sand blaster can take off 62 years of paint, including a previous brushed coat. The machine grey paint is a tad lighter than my Unisaw, but close enough. Looks great, and in a few days I'll have another chance to do the table, cast iron belt guard and spindle, and have a new machine!
Contrary to what the service rep at Delta said, ("that ALL Delta machines since '27 have serial numbers")this one didn't. Leads me to believe it was made during the war. Quite excited that the original Brown Machinery Company of St. Louis sticker is still on the side.
