I found this drill press on Craigslist of all places listed as a large drill press with machining vise. It hadn't been used in long-long time and all the grease dried up and the quill would not move! The original paint was good but in the past someone drop a bucket of paint near it and given it white splater finish. The motor was a 1/3 HP Delta 6" frame motor. Strange, but that was the way the original owner had it set up. The machinist vice turned out to a Delta lathe cross slide tool rest and a lathe sanding table and mortising attachment and were included in the deal. The seller had bought it at an estate sale for $25 but it was to big for his needs. I traded a motor for his little Rockwell radial DP and some green and were both very happy.

After a tear down, repaint, new bearings and a 1 HP RI motor she was ready to go. I did have to by a new chuck for it. When I checked the runout it was 0.010". That put me through some changes until I replaced the chuck. With the new chuck the runout was just over 0.001". Perfect!

I ended up selling this one to support my habit but I think my 1939 17" would look good in that dark Delta gray shade and I do need to change out the bearings in the top end, so that my be my next project when it gets warm enough to paint again.
