I found the saw in the local paper. He had it listed with a bunch of other tools. I went to the shop and found around 40-50 machines under one roof. He had been collecting tools for many years and needed to get rid of some in order to have room to work. No kidding! There were narrow aisles snaking in between Table/Radial arm saws, jointers, shapers, drill presses, planers, band saws and a whole bunch of other specialized tooling. This Unisaw was one of four that he had. This one was the oldest and most complete which was what I was looking for.
For restoration, I cleaned and repainted the outer cabinet and cleaned the surface rust off of the top. The original 3 phase bullet motor was still present, but I replaced it with the 2hp Leeson. I had to shorten the electrical box on the motor to make it work in the goose egg shaped opening (as described by others on the Internet - thanks). I also installed three Power-Twist belts which make for smooth operation. I can stand a nickel on edge and start the saw and it won't fall over. I opted to install my Delta Precision Sawguide Fence which is essentially a 2/3 scale version of the Unifence. Side table holds a Rockler router plate with a Delta shaper fence. I finished with a ShopFox Mobile base.
