Comments:
This was part of a Crescent universal woodworking collection, the owner decided to break it down into the components, alas, the bandsaw sat out in the weather for 10 years out side a friend of mine's shop. He sold it to me for $9.00 scrap iron. Of coarse, the drive system was non-existent, so, I designed and built one. Sense I work in metal, plastics and wood, the speed range had to be wide. I replaced the babbit bearings with pillar blocks for the upper wheel and flange bearings on the lower wheel, I used Carter guides.
It always puzzled me why the infeed side was backwards, but on this web site I found the answer, it was because a 12" jointer was positioned behind the outfeed table an acted as a table extension with the fence removed, this is partly guess work as I haven't been able to see the complete machine live and up close. I never had any idea what the guards looked like if any, so I just fabricated what I hoped would pass OSHA regulations.
Note - this entry was edited to update the machine specs. The original entry date was 2/8/2003. DG
