History:
This drill press was given to me (free), by my neighbor (I help him with his projects), in the Spring of 2006.
A friend gave him this drill press, along with a 1960s Craftsman 6" jointer and 12" band saw. This is originally a bench model drill press. A previous owner swapped the floor column for the original. This made it very unstable with the small bench top base and it tipped over, destroying the original table assembly. (This is why my neighbor never used it.)

Machine:
Atlas bench model #1020, 15" drill press, s/n 006895.
1951 Craftsman 115.6962 1/2hp, 1750rpm dual shaft ball bearing motor.

Status:
I've rewired the drill press head toggle switch with a male two prong plug. The motor hot power lead is wired with a female two prong plug, to mate with the switch. This will allow me to easily remove the motor and mount, without disturbing the wiring. The spindle pulley feels like it needs new bearings. During the rewire, the motor was cleaned and fitted with new 87502 KS bearings from Accurate.

I've been looking for a standard table and column. My initial plan was to convert it back to original configuration. But since then, I've purchased an original Atlas 1040 slow speed pulley set and full belt guard from fellow OWWMer Ray Muno, who brought it to ArnFest07. And in Dec07, I purchased an original floor base from a local ebay seller. Now the plan it to rebuild it to a floor model for metal drilling. For the tables, I have a standard 14" Delta and production 15" Walker-Turner(?) to choose from. Both tables are from fellow OWWMer Eric Tuck.

Now that I have a full collection of parts, this drill press has moved into the rebuild queue.

Update-January 2013:
Disassembled head and quill to assess bearings.
Spindle pulley upper bearing: Fafnir 205PP (double removable seals), flushed and repacked with Mobil Polyrex EM.
Spindle pulley lower bearing: Fafnir 204PP (double removable seals), flushed and repacked.
[Equivalents: standard 6205 & 6204 both with double seals.]
Spindle upper & lower bearings: Fafnir 202P-5 (double removable seals), found lower bearing dry.
Replaced both with NTN 6202-5/8 double seals [6202 with 5/8" bore diameter].
Lubricated spline drive and cup with Mobil Polyrex EM.
Note: grease cup on side of head feeds spline drive (not the bearings).

UPDATE-September 2017:
I no longer own this drill press--traded it to a fellow OWWMer.
