Comments:
This lathe was gotten by my father from an old shop in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland, Canada. It was owned by the Parsons family there I believe. It was used for general purposes, but my father told me that as a boy he would request of the owner to make wooden whipping tops for himself and his friends. That would have been in the early 1920s. My father acquired this lathe in the 1980s I believe and put it in the trunk of his car and hauled it back to Boston, Massachusetts. I finally got it after my mother died in about 2005. I had to haul it out to Minnesota in a trailer along with other things.

There are two heavy oak planks that were intended to be the ways. These were to be capped with aluminum angle. I will have to finish this project, but would like to know of any complete images of the this style lathe from catalogs or existing models.

The swing is about 16 inches ( diameter ) as near as I can tell. The headstock looks in very good condition. However, some of the sheaves are worn and at least part of this sheave assembly is wooden. Was this typical??? JHA 10-28-07
