This grinder was found at a local flea market three months ago. I wasn't that interested (at the time, I was still hunting for a Delta grinder ) but when the seller dropped the price to ten dollars, I coughed up the money and lugged it back to the batcave. I spent all of an hour restoring it to the fine looking object you see here. The original brushed steel center strip was totally beyond all hope, ergo the daring black on black color scheme...I have seen other companion grinders but never one with the pinchbolt secured guards, so I have no clue when this grinder was made. I spent more on the wire wheels than I did on the grinder, but it comes in handy to clean the hardware for other machine restorations. It just goes to show you that no matter how we strive to return a machine to its former glory, at the end of the day all that matters is the way these vintage tools perform. The little grinder isn't a beauty, and I would retire it for a delta in a heartbeat, but it works fine and only gives me grief when my fingers are too close to the wheel.A classic Sears product; inexpensive, simple and perfectly adequate.
