Comments:
This mortiser concluded a long search and was bought from an IRS Auction in Marion, SC. Tom Wassack in Asheboro, NC ruckered it to his place until I came over in July, 07 to install some door panels in Fayetteville, NC.

Tom went above and beyond with the rucker. He inspected and repaired a cracked bracket on the machine, was very patient with me when I lost all but the wrong phone number, and enlisted a neighbor and his Bobcat into helping load it - and refused to accept anything for the effort.

The auction price was $360. Information from Central Machinery indicated that the machine was originally sold on 13 July 1955 to a refridgeration company in St. Louis, MO. As can be seen, dealer and mfgr tags are in excellent condition. There is an oval tag on the column and motor which look like military tags. Not sure about those.

At some point in its career, the machine was horribly damaged. The brackets on the table have been rewelded and pieced back together. The motor was originally a 3ph 220v affair which was rewound for 480v. The rewinding party altered the voltage information, but not the amperage number. As can be seen, they apparently repainted the motor when it was rewound.

The machine was also converted into a boring machine. As a result, the chisel holder was missing, as was the depth stop. One stop on the table bar is also missing, and of course, the long stop bars for the table. The clamp bar was bent and the machine needed a bit of oiling and cleaning.

I cleaned up the table but did not repaint (I needed the machine to get back in service). Replacing the chisel holder cost almost as much as the machine - but was necessary and worth it. A transformer steps power up from 220v to 480v and the motor runs quite nicely.

After a little cleaning, oiling and adjusting, the Noble Wysong 321 was ready to go back to work. This is a marvelous machine. I particularly like that the table raise/lower wheel is off to the side and not underneath. Nice.

Comments: The Wysong in its new home. It is about 7' tall and the foot pedal works flawlessly.
