Hammond Kalamazoo 12" Pedestal Grinder, Model # 12-A, 2 HP (before). Serial # 6605
This is a very well traveled grinder. It came from New York and I shipped it to Maui where it sat in my warehouse unused for about 2 years. Somewhere in that time period I made the mobile base for it intending to put it into service but still never wired it up. It then moved with me to North Carolina and I just now got around putting a plug on it and wiring it up. I think that is about 10,000 miles and I had never put power to it until now, I guess I knew it would run. It has a thin coat of ugly but I am amazed at how smooth and quiet this grinder is, that wire wheel moves some air but other than that it is almost silent. This is my new favorite grinder and, for now, I dont care how ugly it is. I'll get around to painting it soon.
It came with a 1/2HP Cincinatti Blower dust collector which is one thing that initially intrigued me about the machine.
I attended a machine shop local auction shortly after arriving in NC, and they had one of these for sale. It did not get a bid and they passed it by. At the time I was not even close to being setup and didnt have room for it. But at the time if I had known how nice these run I would now own 2 of them. I guess I am still finishing off a few Maui projects and this is one that I never had time for until now.
