This machine is located at the Georgia Agrirama Living History Museum in Tifton, GA (http://www.agrirama.org).

The machine has been modified from it's original configuration. Originally, it would have been a foot operated machine in which as you pressed down on the foot lever, a mortising chisel would have been pushed into the wood like a hammered mortising chisel. At some point, somebody converted it to a hollow chisel mortiser powered by a flat belt from an overhead line shaft. Pressing down on the foot lever will push the hollow chisel with a drill bit in the middle into the wood.

The machine is marked with a patent date of Sep. 13, 1887 which coorisponds to U.S. Patent 369,924 (http://www.datamp.org/displayPatent.php?number=369924&type=UT).
