It took over a year from the time of purchase to get this machine landed in Tifton, GA but thanks to a couple of OWWM'ers, she has finally made it.
This machine was found in Portsmouth, NH back in late April of 2006. A fellow OWWM'er sent me a note letting me know that it was in a junk yard and was soon to be on it way to be sold for scrap. Between the two of us, we were able to make an offer to the junk yard owner for the machine and it was saved for a minimal amount of money.
The next step was to get it home - from Portsmouth, NH to Tifton, GA. After making many post to the OWWM Forums, another fellow OWWM'er finally stepped forward. He lived nearby Portsmouth and would be hauling a trailer (with some extra room) to Bellhaven, NC. The machine took the trip in June of 2007. One giant step closer.
Then in July of 2007, I had planned to make to trip to Raleigh, NC to visit Ed Hobbs and attend the area MWTCA meet at his farm. Wow - Ed sure does have quite the collection of foot powered machinery! Anyway, on that trip, I swung by Bellhaven and picked up the machine. Left out of Tifton at 5:30 am and finally got to Raleigh at 7:30 that same evening - most of the time was spent behind the wheel. I loaded the machine by myself using a come-a-long to hoist it onto my trailer, strapped her down and was back on the road.
After a year and three months, the machine is finally in Tifton, sitting right next to his older brother - an 8" jointer with similar lines. One of these days, I will get around to restoring her.
