I purchased this machine from a man in northern California that had the intention of restoring and using it for hobby woodworking. He acquired it in the purchase of his house around 2001. I acquired it ($150) to build furniture and cabinetry in my rather small shop. As far as I know this machine lived in the barn from which I bought it, all of its life. The property had multiple buildings on about an acre and half, the largest of which was used to raise chickens.
The personal thing about this ts is that one of my woodworking mentors also has the same model in his personal shop. He has used it over the years for many projects. For the most part I think I am being nostalgic. There is something to say about the guy you look up to saying, "I've made plenty of kitchens on that saw" or "you'll really like that saw it gets the job done nicely." He also accompanied me on the inspection and pick up. It made for a more confident purchase.
I can't say for sure whether the original owner was a woodworker or if he was the kind of guy that my generation wishes we were, master of many things. He may have had such a machine around to merely accomplish regular household chores.
I think this machine is a great first table saw and a worthy challenge for first time restoration. Besides, it fits in my little shop.
