Baldor Model 7308DP 7" x 1" Pedestal Grinder. 3ph, 1/2 HP, 1800 RPM, 5/8" arbor.
Here is my entry for the biggest switch on a grinder contest. Came by this one in the usual way, it came from NY via online auction last year. The seller represented it as an 8" grinder but upon arrival I discovered it is a 7" model. I liked it so well, it looked as if it had only been used a few times, that I kept it anyway. I have just now gotten her set up and ready to use. This one is cool because it has that big honkin AB mag switch that also has a control voltage step-down transformer and a 120 volt coil. The lights are wired directly to the coil so when you turn the grinder on the lights come on too. Some of you might still remember the thread where I wired my old Maui grinder lights to the ground on the 3 phase; you guys gave it to me pretty good about that one. So as you can see, I have repented.
There was only one problem with this little idyllic setup; the little transformer is 208 volts and I have a 240 volt (actually runs about 245 volts) delta system. The first time I hit the switch she blew the light bulbs and one of the fuses on the transformer. So I replaced the fuse and put a meter on it and got a reading of 150 volts at the light socket; I guess light bulbs dont like that. I ordered and installed a 240 volt .130 kva transformer so I can use my lights again. I like to turn it on just so the lights come on. I get a kick out of that, I guess because I've never had one that would do that. I like grinders like some other people I know.
This one came with original grinding wheels, like I said practically unused, but I have a 7" knotted brush and 6" felt wheel for polishing mounted on her now. It is being used for tuning up tools and tooling and she runs very, very smooth. Not sure of the vintage of this grinder or if it even qualifies as OWWM but it works on OWWM so I'll post it and let someone else figure that out.
