Comments:
This machine belongs to Bill McCarthy - he recently purchased it in central New Hampshire.

Quoting Bill, "An unusual feature on this machine is that the lower head is stationary. To change the relationship of the lower head to the sliding table, the table is raised or lowered by a frame with 4 wedges. The frame is moved by a screw and crank. This machine has a good bit of its original green paint and red pinstriping, the patent date was painted in gold. Early New England practice was to paint all machinery either wood or metal working green."

The second picture shows a patent number: 20th April, 1869. That corresponds to patent 89,245, and you can view that patent via the Witherby, Rugg & Richardson entry in the Manufacturers Index.
