Found this item on Craigslist ($30) in Aug-2006, advertised by the original owner who purchased it at Toronto's Downtown Eaton's store in 1962. It is part of my assembly of items needed to build a 12" dia. disc sander, similar to the 8 1/2" [HOMECRAFT] that I presently have. It is a bit unusual in having the shaft protrude from both ends of the motor housing, but goes back to the days when motors sometimes served a dual purpose and drove two machines at once. Back then, motors could not be found laying around everywhere as they now are. The reference on the nameplate to the "externally reversible" statement means that there is no internal terminal strip used and the wires for both the START and RUN windings just terminate on the out side of the motor. Easy to install a DPDT switch on there if you found a need to have the motor direction remotely reversible. I liked the idea that the motor speed is 1750 RPM as a lot of disc sanders run too fast. It is also dual voltage 110/220 V.
Note - this entry was edited to move it to the Motor category. The original entry date was 6/24/2007. DG
