This machine came from the Langley NASA research facilities in Hampton, VA. I got it through a GSA auction for $437. GSA lots are usually kept inside, there are no hidden fees and forklift loading is free. Auction pictures are terrible though. For this machine for example, I couldn't tell if the throat plates and spindles were present.

This machine is 1/2 hp, 230v/460v 3ph. This is one of the newer generation machines with the "POSITIV-LOK" spindles. Machine came with all three throat plates, 15 (yes 15) spindles, and 10 drums. Included were a 4", three 3", three 2", and three 1 1/2" drums with spindles plus the 1/4", 3/8", two 1/2", and the 5/8" spindles. Half of the spindles are the old type.

I have been putting off buying a set of State drums to use on my Oliver 34 dsd (mine has a 3/4" spindle so can use State drums). These extra drums saved me the $300 or so from Freemans.

When I turned the machine on there was an ominous sounding bump at the bottom of the stroke. Humm....not good. I opened it up and found a tooth missing from the sacrificial worm. Not such a big thing. We will see how proud Freeman is of their worms. At least the gear is easily/readily available. Anyway I got enough extra spindles to make this a small matter.
