I bought this planer on ebay from a university carpenter's shop. I am including it here mostly as an example of how well a factory paint job can be rejuvenated sometimes with a proper cleanup and a healthy dose of elbow grease. Also I wanted to ad a shot of the factory motor grinder setup.
This particular machine has had little more than cosmetic work from me. I did replace the cutterhead bearings with new sealed units. I also checked the worm gear over and it was surprisingly in very nice shape. With a sharp set of knives and now properly adjusted it is a very smooth and quiet machine for a planer of this size. The feed mechanism is noticeably quieter than similarly sized machines from Powermatic.
