Since there is not a early 7" grinder with the water pot tray and relay switch, I decided to add my unit. This was the design up until sometime in the early 40's (the 40 catelog shows this unit, the 43 catelog shows the "newer" style without the tray.

I was very happy to find this unit, as I missed a similar one at my own companies auction of old equipment due to a business trip. (yes I was really upset, epecially when I asked for a proxy bid that would have won).

This unit has a faulty switch (note the covers missing) and had "motor good switch bad" written on the motor. The switch is a square D design. The motor badge is missing as well. I have scraped and blasted the paint off, its been repainted 4 times (5 including the orginial). The paint was so thick in sections of the tray that the bead around the edge was not apparent.

I have included a shot of the parts drying near the fire from a fresh coat of paint (rustoleum dark machine gray). This will also give you an idea of how the pedestal is comprised of 4 sections.

The box that is on the back of the first picture is a custom made sheet metal box that captures the grinder exhuast. It had 3 inches of swarf in there. I included a picture on my photobucket site here.

While it appears to work well I dont like the way it looks (even though it was a very professional design and execution).

If anyone has the '41 and '42 catelogs I would love to know when they switched models. Thanks for looking.
