I acquired this 10 inch tilting arbor Unisaw from the orignial owner (my neighbor Brad). He purchased it in 1947 for $300, his wife gave him 3 $100 bills for his birthday so he could get it. He operated a machine shop business for several years and this unit saw considerable action. The goose egg motor is in good condition and seems to deliver all 6 amps @ 240 V. The unit was a little bit rusty and dusty when I bought it in 2006 but it ran real smooth. Brad installed new belts in 1971 and a new 240V switch in 1979. Otherwise completely original equipment.
I disassembled it, washed it with a grease remover, used phosphoric acid to remove the rust, painted all parts (although I took some liberties with colors to spice it up a little as the whole thing in dark smoke grey just wasn't gonna happen), lubricated the inner workings and reassembled it. Runs great with the original dead solid miter guage and fence and the original blade guard. Came with orignal owners manual, original dado cutter and moulding cutter!
I should mention that Brad (the original owner) is getting on in years but he was over a couple of times to supervise, keep me on the straight and narrow with the restoration and he was real proficient in the use of the chain hoist(which is the right thing to do to save my aging back- the top alone weighs more than 150 lbs). He is pretty darned pleased with how things turned out with his old baby! Me Too!
A real fine piece of original American Heavy Metal Craftmanship that just keeps on truckin'!!!
