Comments:
I picked up this small Baldor locally. Seller said that his father had been a tool and die man. Grinder is remarkably complete and spins up beautifully.

The 612 series is still being made today, but I don't know how close the new ones are to this one. The guards here are cast and lack exhaust ports. The shields (cut off in the pictures) are unbroken.

I've dated this to between 1956 and 1967. The tag lists both St. Louis and Ft. Smith, AR. Baldor's first Ft. Smith facility opened in 1956. They moved their headquarters to Ft. Smith and closed the St. Louis plant in 1967. Barring left over tag usage, it's gotta fall in there somewhere.

Update: OK, so maybe left over tag syndrome has reared its ugly head once again. G6-68 is also on the tag in the lower right-hand corner. I've been told that this indicates its date of manufacture. I'm gonna go with it.
