This is an early 1930's model 890 I received from my dad who bought it in the 1950's. When I received the saw the base was made of wood, I found a original base on eBay and after receiving it decided to redo the saw. I dismantled the entire saw, the bearings were fine but a bit sticky so I soaked them and they loosened up perfectly. I cleaned up all the metal and repainted the entire saw masking around the original decal which is still in great condition. I replaced the tires and added cool blocks. I made my own blade tension crank because the original crank handle was broke and because I wanted one that cranked above the saw. To make it I welded on a piece of 4130 tubing, 1/2 " od x 3/8" id and added the wheel crank handle. The new tensioner is just like the ones offered aftermarket but this cost me about $5.00 for the handle. I welded up my own wheeled base with low profile steel caster wheels and it sits about 1/16" off the ground and wheels around great. I really wanted an original belt guard but was outbid on 3 different ones on eBay and I just could not make myself spend $150 so I made it out of aircraft plywood. I formed and laminated bows to make the curved ends, it works great. I also made a bracket for the original light and polished the aluminum and brass parts, it looks like chrome. I really had fun redoing this saw and have now been using it almost every day and it's holding up very well (updated 2/2012)
