This Dunlap branded "Convertible" wood or metal lathe belongs to a woodworker in the Houston area.
I know from the 101.----- model number riveted (a real solid copper ID tag)on the back that this lathe was originally made for Sears Roebuck and Co. by the Atlas Press Co. of Kalamazoo Michigan.
I did the actual restoration on the lathe itself for him last winter (2006) when my shop was also still in the Houston/Kemah area. He bought this lathe from a local guy in the Houston area and the only thing that it was missing to my knowledge was the original tool rest bracket ( he has the original tool rest) which he has now found one for this model lathe on ebay. I stripped the entire lathe down to bare metal, primed it all and then painted it with U.S. Paints "Awl Grip" 2-part paint system mixed to match the "King-Seeley" gray color and not the old Craftsman blue color. I also replaced both bronze head stock shaft sleeve bearings with new ones from McMaster-Carr. The owner (Pete) has also bought a new roller bearing dead center for the tailstock to replace the original cup center that came wiht this lathe new. Pete has also made the new bench you see in these pictures I'm posting for him and has mounted the lathe and motor with all new wiring to the bench himself.
