This is an old cast-iron wood Lathe. It is in very good condition with very little rust. On the drive end casting, the words "F.E. Wells and Son, Greenfield, Mass USA" are cast. On the bed, the number 314 is cast, and "U9608" is stamped. There is also a brass plaque attached to the front which reads "Greenfield Tap and Die Cooperation, Greenfield Mass USA."
It is driven by a flat belt, four speed, manual shift and lock from the drive shaft. The belt is in good condition.
There are seven threaded attaching spindles. Each is in working condition, with a light coat of rust.
The hand rest is complete and in good condition. The tail pin is missing, but the holder is functional.
This lathe weighs in at about 250 pounds.
