Number One in the "What I Did on My Summer Vacation" series. While prowling AG's internet spied an auction with a number of Delta owwms. Yes! Photos. Yet the auction was a solid 3 hour drive away.
Creative rationalization being a vital element for hunting OWWM, I decided since the auction date was close to my birthday I would treat myself, take a day off, and hit the road in the Possum Van. The auction was outside of Danville, IL, the state capital of Illinois 1819-1839, and one of only two cities where A. Lincoln had a law office. So, a little history was part of the trip.
Found the DP in very clean condition- no arc -no rust. What's this? The S/N indicated this machine came out of Bellefountaine the year of my birth. *This was meant to be* A quick check with dial indicator found runout to be only .0015. Ha! Better than a brand new Delta as measured in FWW a few years ago. It did not have the large slow speed pulley, but that was a secondary concern. It runs quiet. 1/2 hp dual voltage Delta badged motor.
I was "sold" and won it for far less than my high bid limit. While a few parts had been repainted sometime before I obtained it, the badge and belt guard are original and IMHO rate as decent owwm parn. A new quill return spring could help, but that is a very minor item for now.
