My 36" Clement Band Saw came with a set of Automatic Saw-Guide & Machine Company saw guides. I also purchased a second upper guide which has no serial number, for spare parts. The first picture shows the two tags from the upper guide. These are examples of Edgar Newell's April 12, 1921 patent #1,374,600. These would have been much later replacements as the Band Saw was made before 1898. They look very much like Carter guides which were patented IIRC in 1934. The Newell design is very complex and has many machined parts. It has provisions for being pinned and acting just like a Carter. The lower guide had Newell's earlier patent date cast onto it. The upper guides simply had PATENTED cast onto them. I am still missing the pin and thumb screw for the lower guide. I haven't tried them yet as I am still in the process of restoring the Clement.
There is another example of this manufacturer's guide on Tim kohout's 32" Cresent band saw.
