Delta/Milwaukee lathe model 1460, Ser# 87-5560, vintage1950. Power is via a TECO FM-50 VFD and a Marathon 2hp 3phase motor (vintage1971). Restoration involved a complete disassembly, sandblast, repaint, bearing replacement, new old stock motor and a VFD. The mobile base requirement created a dilemma with the VFD. In order to keep everything together and greatly simplify the wiring I had to mount the VFD on the lathe. Obviously this isn't the best solution, but a workable. The box is equipped with a small 220v fan and filtering to keep it cool and the dust out. The door is Plexiglas so I can keep an eye on it and the bottom is a filter to filter the incoming air. The control stalk is just a 6X6 box and the controls all mount within, main power for the VFD and a indicator light so I know when the power is on, forward/stop/reverse and a potentiometer to control the speed. The VFD is mounted to the box with rubber isolation bushings and the box is mounted to the underside of the lathe shelf with isolation bushings.
