Comments:
This jointer was auctioned at an estate sale in western Illinois Dec 12, 2006. There were a number of other machines sold that day including the amazing Benjamin & Fischer Matcher/Planer. (see my other photos)
I got the jointer for a very good price, and brought it home 3 days later. It was a 2.5 hour drive one way to the sale, so I was glad to be done with this particular move.

I had not planned to bid on the jointer but upon inspection found it to have ball bearings and a cutter head which turned freely and quietly. There were no signs of bad rust, trauma/damage or repair. The cutter guard was present as was the fence and all the appropriate hardware and adjustment items. The original Fay & Egan decal is still on the frame (see lower right in first photo) The heartbeat went a little higher then.

I need to fit a proper motor since none was included. 5 belt sheave on cutterhead shaft/ and 2-knife head which is apparently the "Safety Circular Cutter Head" mentioned in Fay & Egan literature at least as early as 1921. The seller of the machine had the jointer for approximately 25 years and its life before that is essentially unknown.
