I saw the auction listng...no I don't need another bandsaw...wait, is that an angle bandsaw?? A Crescent?? Maybe I should bid...I'm sure I won't get it...I won??!!!...It's completely intact??...Tags and decal untouched??? Wow! I don't believe it.

As it turned out, the base casting of the saw had been damaged. it had several cracks that had been welded, which left the dovetail ways that the table slides on seriously out of alignment. In the summer of 2010, with the help of scraping expert Stephen Thomas, I was able to scrape enough metal off the ways (1/8"!) to bring them back to usable straightness. Since I was in no immediate hurry for the saw, I set about restoring it. I had the catalogue plates showing the type of pressed steel guards the saw could have been outfitted with originally. I decided to reproduce them out of wood. This involved several things, including making patterns for the missing guard hanger brackets and having them cast by Cattail foundry. I received many compliments and suggestions from all the members at owwm.org, and among them was an offer from Dave Potts to provide the lettering for the upper guard, courtesy of the students in his high school class and their laser cutting machine.

This 3 year project is nearing completion and soon the saw will be in operation. I am deeply grateful to Steve and Dave for their help, as well as all the other members of owwm.org who have offered support, comments, and compliments.
