Comments:
I recently picked up this S/N 2-4634 circa 1939/1940 Model 890 off of ePay. The four decals (two on the 891 stand and two on 890 saw) are in excellent condition. I was told by the seller (the nephew of the original owner) that the collection of pulleys was used as a power take-off to power other tools (including a drill press) in his Uncle's furniture making shop using the band saw motor. This pulley arrangement will be the first thing to go along with the light switch mounted to the upper arm casting. Unfortunately the non-stock pulley system was mounted by drilling a hole in each of the four legs of the 891 stand which I plan to repair. The saw is need of a few parts and new paint. It came with a Century Electric Company (St. Louis, MO) Repulsion Start Induction Single Phase 3/4HP motor, which in the future I hope to replace with a Delta RI motor of the proper vintage controlled by a proper switch rod. It has an AL upper wheel (which I assume was a replacement along the way) and a CI lower wheel. Someday I hope to re-replace the upper wheel with a proper CI one and also obtain a CI belt guard for it.
