Got This unisaw from a guy at work. He had told me about the saw a few years earlier but I had just bought a Craftsman and and this was a 220 unit and I did not have 220 in my Garage. Being disappointed with the performance of my light weight saw I started dreaming about a new heavier duty model. When I happened to see this guy again I asked him if he still had the saw if so how much would he want for it. With a yes response, and For you $20 I assured him it would get a nice home. At this point all I knew was that it was a big heavy saw. Fearing it might be a MOAK I downloaded in Delta Catalog and he confirmed thats it!.
Damage: Suspect that the saw was backed into with a fork lift and possibly tipped over considering the damage:
Fence Locking handle bent
Fence cracked at locking head and rear locking
Back rail replaced with a fence post 1 5/8
Fence mounting hole broken
Internal damage
Crack in the tilt bracket
So I wired the garage for 220 service. The saw fired up with a slight groan.
Looking at the Delta vintage project it appears that the serial no. 111-2733 tells me it is a 1954 model.
Now the saw, I am told was from a BFI warehouse. So I imagine it was run over or hit by a fork lift and possibly tipped over. Hence missing rear fence, mounting broken . I dont know if I mentioned this but the saw was painted red somewhere along the way, perhaps to ward-off forklift drivers. The red paint is driving me nuts. It looks awfull.
