Purchased from a used machinery dealer so no price gloat here. Not that old, but built the way they used to - this machine is cast iron from floor to fence - even the chip chute is cast as part of the base. This machine has a three knife cutterhead - the new ones (yes General still build these in Drummondville, QC.) have 4 so you get more cpm for the same cutterhead speed. Built like the old Olivers/Crescents etc with small adjustable inclines at each corner of the tables. The jointers built by General should not be confused with the Poitras jointers (Poitras was bought in 1987 by General) which are actually more similar to a Northfield in design with separate tables bolted to the inclined ways. Some have suggested that these General jointers were a carryover from the Poitras line of machines, but clearly they are not. Some other Canadian made jointers with similar bed adjustments I have seen are CMC (I actually have one of these as a restoration project), Preston and Jos Cote (another Quebec manufacturer).

This is a jointer fence - when I re-installed it, it was still perfectly square to the table after a rather long truck ride - my old DJ-20 fence could come out of alignment if the cutterhead guard hit it too hard!
