Comments:
Iola Planing Mill jointer. Yerkes & Finan had ties with Hall & Brown of St. Louis and feel that these machines came from the same factory / seller. The jointer has original square head. The knives are bolted to two sides of head, the other two sides have 'T' slot for bolting on moulding knives. Through research we were fortunate to be forwarned of the inherent danger of using a square head jointer. We did produce mouldings on this jointer, but with plenty of guards in place. Chipped or broken lips on the table tops of old jointers may be the clue that it has or had a square head used in this fashion. When the tables are elevated to adjust the depth of cut when running mouldings,it's easy to forget that at the same time the tops are moving into the cutting radius of the knives. Original paint.
