This Craftsman radial arm saw belonged to my grandfather, for many years in suburban Maryland. When he and my grandmother moved to a retirement community, my father acquired the saw and took it with him to Florida. When my dad passed away in 2000, I brought the dusty, rusty saw back up north to West Virginia. Because of the weight, I had to remove the arm from the base. The base was attached to the original craftsman mobile table, and I used the base/table as a work bench, without much use for the saw. When I moved into my new home in 2001, I became interested in wood working, but wanted the saw mounted on a permanent bench. The cylinder of the saw arm had rusted conciderably, and it took quite a bit of time to work it free. I completely disassembled the machine, hand cleaned and lubricated it, worked the play out of the shaft, and mounted it on the base bolted to my new work bench(as seen). It is a sturdy, solid saw that has helped me do plenty of remodeling around my house, and I look forward to many more years of use out if it. And Im proud to be able to use a tool that belonged to my grandfather, and pass it on to my son someday.
