I was looking for a belt sander and came across a listing in craigslist.org with the title and description as "belt sander stationary", no picture was provided. I purchased it for $60 on 09/23/2006.
The total weight is close to 270 lbs. The base is cast iron and has large raised letters that say "Porter Cable, Syracuse, NY". The sander (cast iron also) has a metal lever connected to a piston for the belt tension release, the top roller has a fine-tuning knob for centering the belt for proper tracking, and the belt operates horizontally, vertically, or at any angle in between. The only markings found so far are:
'D PC-57-'
and the rest are unreadable. The sander runs so smooth (it also has grease fittings on the rollers). The motor is a 10 year old Dayton 1/2 HP.
I removed the 3 worn out castors and attached it to a mobile base. The next step is to clean it up. Then I would like to put some sort of belt pulley cover and dust shroud on it, any suggestions?
Purchased the custom sized sanding belts from www.customsandingbelts.com/
