Comments:
Boice Crane made at least two different model shapers - model 2100 and 3100. This is the model 2100. I would guess that it is from the 1960's or possibly before. I purchased this machine as a basket case. It was missing the fence, motor pulley and motor mounting assembly. I rebuilt the spindle, which reverses for using either 3/4" or 1/2" bore cutters. I cleaned and painted the casing. I purchased the fence from a follow OWWM member and restored it. The same member was reproducing the Boice Crane logo for another project and he was kind enough to provide me with one. The toughest part of this restoration was finding the motor pulley [see picture #3]. It is 6" in diameter and 4" high to allow the dual "V" belts [note that picture #3 shows only one belt which it not the original design] to move as the spindle is adjusted up and down. It took me over 6 months to find the pulley, but persistance paid off. I recently sold this machine to a fellow OWWM member and then purchased a Delta HD shaper vintage 1945.
