Early-style 17" high-speed drill press with Art-Deco style belt guard. The front section of the belt guard is cast-iron and the rear is a pot-metal die-casting. This rather elaborate type belt guard was replaced with a plainer sheet-metal version about 1942. The Cat.#1329 Allen-Bradley magnetic starter was a factory option on this 3-phase DP.

This machine has seen fairly heavy industrial use in its 66-odd years, but is still very accurate and smooth-running. I ran it with a slo-speed pulley set for quite a while, but replaced the original high-speed pulley after putting a newer slo-speed DP in service a couple of years ago. Someday, I wouldn't mind finding a jacobs-taper spindle nose to replace the #2MT nose on this one. At the same "someday" I might restore it to its original Delta dark blue-gray color, but for now it serves as-is in everyday use. The starter should be basic Allen-Bradley black, but I've become sort of fond of the gold layer it picked up sometime in its history.
