Purchased from classified ad. No known history. Bought in the condition shown.
I made this post looking for help identifying the model number and (for curiosity) the year it was made. I've received several courteous and helpful responses. Thanks to you all.
Overwhelming opinion is that it is a model #37-205. I've contacted Delta and requested literature. They were very courteous as well. Pleasant surprise in this day and age.
Delta says the serial number (3-3878) is not in their database. I followed a suggestion by another member and read this article:
http://www.owwm.com/Delta/VintageProject/Part1.asp
My serial number is not on that page, but the tag looks identical to this one
http://www.owwm.com/Delta/VintageProject/OlderDeltaSerialNumberTag.jpg
(from the same article) except of course for my serial number, which is 3-3878. I guess that means it is pre-1941.
Thanks again for all your help.
I've placed two pictures of the motor for the sake of this forum discussion:
