About 2 years ago I started looking for a 20 inch drill press. Most of the ones that I saw at the typical online auctions went for several hundred dollars if they looked like they were in decent conditon. At the surplus auction they have at work a couple of times a year highly worn machines go for more money than I was willing to pay. Normally lots of bidders for the drill presses.
Bruce Norton found an add for a used drill press at gov liquidation for a used 20 inch Rockwell drill press in August of 2005. The drill press was in Anniston, AL. near his brothers house. The pictures of the drill press were not pretty but figured that it was worth taking a small risk on. A bid of $89.21 got me a well aged drill press. His brother picked the drill press up and stored it until he went to visit his mother. Around Christmas I had a new to me drill press. Pictures of the drill press as purchased are attached. Will put pictures of restored drill press in second post.

Front view of drill press. Note head is lower which gave the impression of bench top model

View from left side of the machine showing low voltage starter. Notice rust on motor. I learned that when motor is stored vertically its a great place collect water inside the motor
