Oliver 182- DB Belt & Disk Sander serial # 94204, 1960. 8/8/06

I just scored this sander online, even though I already own one that I have restored, because this is the most complete example of a fairly uncommon machine that I have ever seen. Except for a lame paint job it looks to be in top shelf condition. It comes with the #3 miter gauge, the extremely rare circle, segment & duplicating gauge (as in the only one I have ever seen or had a chance to purchase) and the original owner's manual.

Quote from the 1950 Oliver brochure;
"With this combination gauge, circular segment and duplicating work can be done. Consists of plate with hinged strip pivoted to bottom, which rides in slot of table. Plate has a series of holes, both reamed and tapped to take center pins for circular work and fence part of angle gauge for duplicating work. Also segment sanding operated by means of handle cast to plate and adjusting screw as stop or set for amount of cut to be taken".

How can anybody live without one of those? The combination gauge is listed as what looks like standard equipment in the brochure. I wonder where all the other ones went? I am sure that every time a shop gets moved someone picks that piece up and gives it a quizzical look before tossing in the dumpster.
This machine also has the original belt side table which is the notorious weak link and almost always broken on this model. It has a couple of parts my other one is missing like the belt side top guard and the disk side crank handle. This baby also has a really nicely done dust collection manifold.
These machines are 3 phase direct drive, 1 HP, 1800 RPM motors. I do sort of have a soft spot for these and while it may not be a "you suck" by bottom feeder standards but I will say that I was prepared to pay about 4 times the hammer price just to get the accessories. And yes I purchased this machine while moving from Maui to North Carolina. Thanks to all the back channelers for pointing out what a madman I am. When it comes to OWWM I dont care what they call me, just as long as they call me.
See yall later,
Chuck
