Due to the brass name plate and the fact that both examples I have were found in NH
I had originally attributed this grinder to C S Forsaith of Manchester New Hampshire
but the advertizing image of a similarly framed grinder would suggest that it was made
by The American Twist Drill Co. This would help explain the “Great American”
name. I found the complete example in the early 1990s and painted it green as I seemed
prone to do at the time. The grungy example was found in the early 2000s and has remnants
of red/orange paint. I have not cleaned it enough to determine whether this was the original
color or an overpaint. Today I prefer to keep a machine in its ‘as found’ condition unless
it is exceedingly rusty.
